Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Bloom (born January 13, 1977) is a British actor. After his breakthrough as Legolas in the trilogy of The Lord of the Rings, he became famous by appearing in fantasy epics, historical epics, and fantasy adventure movies. His other roles include Legolas in the Hobbit's The Hobbit trilogy, Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, and Paris at Troy (2004).

Bloom later proved himself to be the leading person in Hollywood films such as Balian de Ibelin in Ridley Scott Kingdom of Heaven (2005) and Elizabethtown (2005). He made his professional stage debut at the West End's Celebration at the Duke of York's Theater in London in 2007 and starred in Broadway's adaptation of Romeo and Juliet in 2013. He then joined the National Youth Theater, spent two seasons there and won a scholarship to be trained at the British American Drama Academy. Bloom started acting professionally with television roles in episodes of Casualty and Midsomer Murders , and then made his film debut at Wilde (1997), in front of Stephen Fry, before entering the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she studied acting.

Careers

Bloom's first appearance on the screen was in a small role, as a rented boy, in the 1997 film Wilde . Two days after graduating from the Guildhall in 1999, he played a role in his first major role, playing Legolas in the movie trilogy of The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003). He initially auditioned for the Faramir section, which did not appear until the second film, but the director, Peter Jackson, threw him as Legolas instead. Personal life

Bloom said that he was trying "not to exclude [himself] from real life as much as possible." During filming in Morocco for the Kingdom of Heaven, Bloom rescues and adopts a dog, Sidi (a black Saluki mix with a white mark on his chest).

Bloom is a Buddhist practicing under Soka Gakkai International. In 2004, he became a full member of SGI-UK (Soka Gakkai International branch in the UK), a lay Buddhist association affiliated with Nichiren's teachings.

Bloom has also been part of Global Green, an environmental company, since the early 2000s. As part of his environmental involvement, he has renovated his home in London to use solar panels, combine recyclable materials, and use energy efficient light bulbs.
