session 2009-10

In 2010 he was nominated to the Washington State Senate by Democratic Justice Committee Officers (PCO) and confirmed by King County Council to replace Sen. Fred Jarrett who resigned to serve as King County's executive representative.

During a brief spring session of 2010, Gordon received three committee commitments: Joint Legislative & amp; Review Committee (JLARC), Preliminary Learning & amp; K-12 Education and Judiciary.

Gordon sponsored seven bills during the session, sponsored forty bills, a joint senate warning, twenty-two senate resolutions.

  • SB 6512, Improve school security.
  • SB 6593, Baby & amp; toddler program. The bill gives children from 3rd birth with support for developmental disability education. It was passed into law on March 29, 2010.
  • SB 6686, Changing the terms of appointment and appointment to a city court judge. Graduated from the Senate, but died at home.
  • SB 6694, Confiscation of dwelling house.
  • SB 6728, electrical training training.
  • SB 6764, Tortious consideration/action. The bill raises the interest rate on a civil rating from 2 percent to 12 percent. The interest rate is changed in the House to be a prime plus two points. It was passed into law on March 19, 2010.
  • SB 6796, automatic teller cost/B & amp; O taxes.

In his first speech on the Senate floor, Gordon voted with other Democrats to postpone voter-approved initiatives so that so-called tax loopholes can be closed to pay for the mandatory budget items required by the country's Constitution. A two-thirds majority is not required to amend I-960 because lawmakers can change the initiative with a simple majority vote after they have been in the book for two years. SB 6843 passed into law. In the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee, committees working to make state government operations more effective, efficient and accountable by auditing and evaluating how money is spent, Gordon reviews a tax exemption book. He signed two major bills hoping to close some of these tax breaks by half a billion dollars - SB 6853 and SB 6873.

As part of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Gordon assists SB 5838 through a committee that will result in more serious offenses for drivers who violate traffic laws causing massive death or bodily injury from pedestrians, cyclists, or other "vulnerable" road users.

As part of Preliminary Learning & amp; K-12 Education Committee, Senator Gordon sponsors SB 6593 who will transfer the Early Baby and Toddler Intervention Program to the DEL from DSHS. Gordon testified on behalf of the bill

The session concludes with Gordon voting for 2ESSB 6143 to cover a $ 2.8 billion budget shortfall with a combination of state service cuts and tax increases. Increased taxes on non-essentials - beer, soda, bottled water, and candy. Pieces made in K-12 and higher education, and other state services.

Jobs pro bono

  • Randy Gordon, Paul Lehto and John Wells asked the King County Superior court to overturn the Sequoia contract that has effectively allowed them to vote. Gordon argues that by transfers voting to private companies that maintain the secrecy of the process, the individual rights to a transparent and observable election process are being summarized. Gordon asked for a $ 5 million refund for Snohomish County for 1,000 voting machines.
