The case of Turpin is the alleged child abuse and incidents of detention found in Perris, California, United States, where David and Louise Turpin allegedly imprisoned their thirteen children for years or even decades. On January 14, 2018, one of the children escaped and contacted the police who, upon entering the house, found some children in a dark room that stank. Brothers aged between 2 to 29 years old, with seven of the thirteen children aged over 18 years old at the time of the arrest of the parents.
Turpins allegedly handcuffed, beat, and strangled their children, allowing them to eat once a day and shower once per year. According to the researchers, the older are so undernourished that they look much younger. The eldest, a 29-year-old woman, weighed only 82 pounds (37 kg). Some of her siblings do not seem to have basic knowledge about the world, do not know what drugs and cops.
The couple was arrested and detained but pleaded not guilty to all charges. Various lawsuits and trials followed in the months that followed. The case is considered "extraordinary for a variety of reasons", such as the alleged harassment perpetrated against many children by two parents (whereas harassment with one child victim is more common), and according to Dr. Bernard Gallagher, because "you do not often get cases of tortured children, where abuse seems to be counted".

Suspect
The suspect David Allen Turpin (born October 17, 1961) and Louise Anna Turpin (born May 24, 1968) were married in 1985 in Pearisburg, Virginia, when David was 23 and Louise was 16 year. The couple eloped, angering her father, church pastor Wayne Robinette.
David, according to his parents, is a computer engineer who graduated from Virginia Tech. In 1979, he graduated from Princeton High School in West Virginia. The 1979 school yearbook records him as the Treasurer of the Bible Club, the Chess Club colleague, and a member of the Acapella Science and Choir Club. The Louise occupation is listed in court documents as a housewife. These couples are adherents of the Quiverfull and Pentecostalism movements. According to David's parents, the couple continued to have children because "God called them" to do it. Homeschooling of children involves memorizing the Bible, and some try to memorize it as a whole. David earns about $ 140,000 per year at Northrop Grumman and has about $ 150,000 in assets. Turbine declared bankruptcy in 2011, due to debts between $ 100,000 and $ 500,000.
The couple rented a postcard in Burleson, Texas, from 1986 to 2003. They owned the property or had lived in Rio Vista and Fort Worth, and left the area in 2010. After Turpins moved from home, the neighbors visited the property and reportedly found dirt all over the living quarters, beds with cords tied to them, some dead cats and dogs in trailers and piles of garbage all around the property. The neighbors did not disclose their findings to the authorities. At their California home, the yard is not maintained with weeds that are overgrown with grass, prompting code violations. Neighbors in California reported that on the occasion they would see children, they would freeze and remain silent when spoken to, "like children whose only defense is invisible." They will jump up and down rather than walk, and look malnourished and pale.

Escape and save
Turpin's children have been planning an escape for more than two years. On January 14, 2018, two of them left home through a window. One returns home in fear, but a 17-year-old girl escapes. He has a mobile phone, and although disabled, he can call 9-1-1. When the police met him, he showed me photos of the conditions at home. Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department gathered at home, where they found twelve other siblings, one of them (aged 22 years) chained to a bed with a chain. The deputies suspect that two additions have also been handcuffed shortly before they enter the house. The deputies described his brother having a malnourished and dirty appearance and looked younger than their age. They initially assumed that all in the group were minors, but they then decided that their ages ranged from 2 to 29, with seven legal adults (18 or older).
The Sheriff's Department said that Louise was "confused" when the deputies entered the residence. They also said, "Parents can not immediately give a logical reason why their children are in control in their way." Six minors, ranging in age from 2 to 17, are transported to the Riverside Regional Regional Medical Center, where they are treated in a pediatric care unit. The Corona Regional Medical Center says that the facility treats seven adult children, describing them as small and clearly malnourished, but stable, relieved and very friendly. By the end of February, seven adult children remained at the medical center, while six of their younger siblings were treated by two orphanages.
Arrests and legal proceedings
On January 14, 2018, David and Louise Turpin were arrested on suspicion of endangering children and torture and detained in Riverside County prison with a guarantee of $ 9 million. Some sources report that the warranty has been set as high as $ 12 million each. Police ransacked the Turpins property on January 17, taking a black plastic bag from the evidence. Hundreds of journals written by children are restored from home. Despite their dubious acceptance in court, they are expected to provide unique insights into the experiences of victims of long-term torture and detention.
Turpins was charged on January 18 with 12 tortures, twelve false prison sentences, seven counts of abuse against a dependent adult, and six counts of child abuse. David receives additional fees for lewd acts against a child under 14 years of age. If convicted, both could be sent to prison for 94 years for life imprisonment. After announcing the charges against Turpins, Riverside County County Attorney Mike Hestrin said, "Severe abuse and neglect increased over time and increased when they moved to California." The couple pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
In a brief hearing on January 24, the judge accepted the prosecutor's request for a detention order prohibiting contact between Turpin's parents and their children for a period of three years. Parents are prohibited from coming within 100 meters (91 m) of their children or establishing electronic contacts with them. Both defendants agreed to this restriction.
On February 23, Hestrin filed three additional charges against child abuse against the couple, and one count of a crime attack on Louise in person. A Satanic Settlement Conference is scheduled for March 23, with the next preliminary hearing on May 14. On May 4, David was charged with eight counts of perjury in connection with a written statement filed with the California Department of Education between 2010-2017, stating that "home children receive full-time education in private schools". The initial hearing date for the couple is scheduled for June 20, 2018.
Reactions of friends and extended family
On January 17, 2018, Louise's sister said that she pleaded for decades to meet her nephew and nephew, even via Skype, but the couple would not let her. Another Louise sister said she was worried about the weight of the children. Aunt Louise Turpin said, "With the photos they use on Facebook, you think they are a big happy family." David's parents said they were "shocked and shocked" over the charges against their son and daughter-in-law. The couple's previous bankruptcy attorney said he met a couple about four or five times in 2011 and described them as "just very normal."
