Professional careers

New England Patriots

Watson entered the league after scoring 48 on his Wonderlima Test. It's tied for the third highest score ever in the NFL. He was recruited by the 32nd overall New England Patriots in the 2004 NFL draft. He is on the injury list for almost the entire rookie season for the Patriots, playing in just one game. Watson received the Super Bowl ring after the Patriot victory over the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX.

He continued to fight for injury during his New England duties, starting just 47 games in six seasons with the team. He earned the best six passes of his career in the unbeaten campaign of Patriot 2007, the third best in the team. His spotlight as a Patriot occurred at the 2006 playoff defeat to the Denver Broncos, as he ran a football field distance to catch and tackle Champ Bailey on the Broncos 'one-yard line after an interception in the Patriots' final zone, preventing a goal. The drama is called "one of the biggest dramas forgotten in Patriot history."

Cleveland Browns

On March 12, 2010, Watson signed a three-year contract with Cleveland Browns, bringing it together with former Patriots assistant coach Eric Mangini. In the 2010 season, Watson led Browns at the reception, received a yard, and received a touchdown (tied with wide receiver Brian Robiskie).

New Orleans Saints

On March 18, 2013, Watson agreed to sign a three-year contract with the New Orleans Saints. In 2015, he was selected as one of the offensive team captains (along with Drew Brees and Zach Strief). In Week 6, he had a solid performance, capturing 10 tracks for 127 yards and a touchdown as Saints defeated the unbeaten Atlanta Falcons in a nationally televised Nautical Night soccer match on Thursday. In Sunday's 8th game against the New York Giants, Watson caught 9 passes for 147 yards and goals, easily beating his previous performance against the Falcons.

By the end of the 2015 season, Watson is recognized as one of the three finalists (Eli Manning and Anquan Boldin) for the Walter Payton Man-of-the-Year award, which was won by Boldin. Also named Pro Bowl Alternate.

Watson is also one of five finalists for the Whizzer White award from the NFLPA.

Baltimore Ravens

On March 9, 2016, Watson signed a two-year contract with Baltimore Ravens for $ 7 million with $ 3 million guaranteed until 2018. On August 27, 2016, during the third Ravens pre-season game, he suffered an Achilles tendon rupture, ending the season.

Watson returned to the field for the 2017 season. In 2017, Watson caught 61 passes with a total of 522 yards and four touchdowns, but that was not enough to stop the Ravens from missing out in the playoffs for the third year in a row. On January 21, 2018, Watson was once again crowned finalist for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. This award was won by JJ Watt.
