Derrick Martell Rose (born October 4, 1988) is a professional American basketball player for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played a college basketball year for Memphis Memphis before being drafted in his first overall by his Chicago Bulls hometown in the 2008 NBA draft. Having been named the NBA Rookie of the Year, Rose, at the age of 22, became the youngest player to win the NBA Most Valuable Player Award in 2011.
Rose was born and raised in the Chicago area, and attends the Simeon Career Academy. He was strongly recruited by NCAA guides and coaches, eventually choosing to join the University of Memphis under coach John Calipari. Rose leads the Memphis Tigers to the greatest gain in NCAA history (record 38-2), their first in 25 years, and the appearance of the NCAA championship. In 2009, the NCAA investigation revealed that the SAT Rose score had been canceled, and as a result, the NCAA left Memphis in the 2007-08 season.
Rose has struggled with significant knee injuries since the 2010-11 MVP campaign. In the first round of the NBA Playoffs 2012 against the Philadelphia 76ers, Rose tore his ACL on his left knee. Rose needed surgery and then ruled out for the entire 2012-13 season. Rose returns to play in 2013-14. However, on November 22, 2013, during regular season games against the Portland Trail Blazers, Rose injured his right meniscus which caused him to miss the rest of the season. Rose returned once more the following season, but a knee injury kept her confused, causing her to lose 30 matches. In June 2016, he traded to the New York Knicks. After a season with the Knicks, Rose joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in July 2017, but was traded and later released by Utah Jazz in February next.

Rose was born and raised in the Englewood area, one of the most dangerous neighborhoods on the South Side of Chicago. He is the youngest son of Brenda Rose after Dwayne, Reggie, and Allan. All three are talented basketball players who teach Rose basketball in a nearby field. As his talent for sport grew, Rose began to attract more attention from the outside in the Chicago basketball circle, which caused her mother and siblings to limit her external contacts. He is afraid he will be exploited and his way to the NBA is diverted by outsiders like street agents, similar to what happened to former Chicago prospect Ronnie Fields.

High school career
By the time Rose was enrolled at Simeon Career Academy in 2003, she was a hot commodity for college coaches. Despite his reputation, he plays a new student and JV basketball for Wolverines. She was wearing No. 25 in honor of Ben "Benji" Wilson, a promising player who was murdered by gang members during his senior year in 1984. Rose was not allowed in university because of the long tradition that head coach Bob Hambric, who has been in school since 1980 has no new students on the team university. The rules did not reduce Rose's game, and he went on to set 18.5 points, 6.6 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game and lead both new students and second year to the city championship with a 24-1 record. Hambric softened his attitude and allowed the new student a chance to play at the university in the state tournament, but Rose refused, wanting the players to get credit. The following year Hambric retired and Robert Smith was hired, paving the way to the university. In Rose's debut, he has 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals over Thornwood High School in a sold-out game filled with scouts and college coaches. He led Wolverines to 30-5 points while averaging 19.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 2.4 steals but the season ended after a loss in regional countries. Rose's game gave her her first national award: an Parade All-American third team spot.
During the first year of Rose in 2006, Simeon Wolverines broke through and won the Chicago Public League championships held at United Center, where Rose starred in 25 points and a delightful crowd. The team advanced through the playoffs and earned a place in the AA Class championship against Richwoods High School, where Richwood's fourth-quarter buffer shake forced overtime. The score was tied at 29 at the end of an additional period when Rose stole the ball and buryed the match-winning jumper as time expired, giving Simeon his first country title since Wolverines led Wilson to win in 1984. The team finished 33-4 and ranked nationally, and Rose was awarded as All-State Illinois, EA Sports All-American Second Team pick and others Parade All-American selection.
Entering his senior year, Rose was ranked fifth best in the country by Sports Illustrated . In January 2007, Simeon went to Madison Square Garden to play Rice High School and star guard Kemba Walker. The Wolverines lost 53-51. The highlight of the season was a national television contest on ESPN against the eternal Virginia Oak Oak Academy two weeks later. Matching with a junior hypnotized bodyguard Brandon Jennings, Rose scored 28 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds and in a 78-75 victory. For her performance, USA Today named her their high school player this week. Simeon went on to repeat as a League champion and defend their state championship, defeating O'Fallon High School 77-54. Thus, Simeon became the first Chicago Public League school to win two state direct championships. In his last game in high school, Rose scored 2 points, but dropped 7 rebounds and a total of 8 assists, while Simeon's Tim Flowers scored 35 points. The Wolverines ended the season 33-2 and ranked first in the country with Sports Illustrated and 6 on USA Today 's Super 25. Rose average 25.2 points, 9.1 assists, 8.8 rebounds and 3.4 steals.
Overall, Simeon's record when Rose is played is 120-12. After his senior year, Rose returned to the All-State after being named Illinois Mr. Basketball and named the McDonald's All-American team. He was also awarded the First Team award by the Parade selection and USA Today and USA Today First Team All-American.
Rose was selected to play at Jordan Brand All-Star Game and Nike Hoop Summit. In 2009, Rose was named the third-largest middleweight point guard of the decade by ESPN RISE magazine behind Chris Paul and T.J. Ford, and has his back number (# 25) retired along with Ben Wilson.
College career
Rose received a scholarship to play for the University of Memphis Tigers under John Calipari, who recruited him after seeing him play in the AAU game. The effort was made by Indiana University and in the state of the University of Illinois to sign Rose into their own program. Illinois specifically planned to pair Rose and five-star recruit Eric Gordon, who has played AAU basketball with Rose. Gordon, however, withdrew his verbal commitment from Fighting Illini, opting to play for Indiana, and Rose then gave his verbal commitment before the start of his senior season. Rose chose Memphis because school history puts players in the NBA and the prospect of Rod Strickland, a 17-year-old league veteran, guides him. Rose switched to # 23, due to the fact that # 25 had been retired by the school in honor of Penny Hardaway.
With the addition of Rose and led by senior veterans Joey Dorsey and Chris Douglas-Roberts, the Tigers started the season in third place in the country. Memphis ran to start 26-0 and claimed the number one ranking in the country for the first time in more than 25 years before falling to the University of Tennessee Volunteers 66-62 in February. Memphis was able to bounce back and catch the USA Conference Tournament to qualify for "Big Dance" with a 33-1 record. Rose averaged 14.9 points per game, 4.7 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game during the regular season and earned the Third Team All-American award among others. He finished as a finalist for the Bob Cousy Awards as well as the John R. Wooden Award.
Memphis is seeded No. 1 in Southern Region. Rose gets high praise for his increased focus on defense, hunting Texas Longhorn keeper D. J. Augustin into a low percentage game in the Eight Eight. In the match against UCLA in the Final Four, Rose finished with 25 points and 9 rebounds to lead the Tigers to a 85-67 win and a trip to the NCAA championship game against Kansas Jayhawks. The win sets the NCAA mark for most of the victories in a season (38). Against Kansas, Rose scored 17 points on 7-of-17 shots, along with six rebounds and seven assists, but missed a critical free throw late in the second half when Memphis fell in extra-time, 75-68. Memphis closed the season 38-2. Rose was named for the All-Final Four team after averaging 20.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
On April 15, Rose announced he would cancel his last three seasons at Memphis and declare for the 2008 NBA draft.
Controversy Grading
According to Sheri Lipman of the University of Memphis lawyers, a month after the defeat to Kansas, the NCAA sent a letter to the school stating that Rose had "an invalid standard grade test the previous year at Simeon High School Chicago." The following January, the NCAA sent another letter, collecting Memphis knowing that Rose had someone else take the SAT for her. Memphis began his own investigation and sent his response back on April 24.
On May 28, 2009, Memphis Commercial Application obtained a letter through the Freedom of Information Act and released it. Although the player's name was edited because of privacy laws, the process of elimination, and the source revealed the player as Derrick Rose. The following day, in a separate investigation, James Sullivan, Inspector General of the District Board of Education of Chicago Public School, released his investigation report stating that four students-athletes from CPS schools had a one-month class increase to change their lectures. transcript. The Chicago Sun-Times unveiled the school as the Simeon Career Academy and three of four were Rose and former team-mates Kevin Johnson and Tim Flowers, prominent members of the back-to-back championship team. The paper claimed that Rose's value changed from D to C. Another part of the report stated that "middle school staff lost the original permanent record to three of the above-mentioned athletes" (including four unknowns). Sullivan started the investigation because "no class changes are supported by any documentation." He also failed to find the suspect as "at least seven people in Simeon have the ability to access student grades and records." The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) executive director Marty Hickman reacted by saying, "It is clear that this is worth seeing." Robert Smith, who coached Wolverines from 2004 to 2007, denied any wrongdoing. Monique Bond district spokeswoman said the students involved may not know about the change of value.
The allegations arose that Rose's brother, Reggie, was allowed to travel with the team for free on several occasions.
Memphis argued that he had learned about the allegations about Rose's SAT score as soon as he enrolled in school. He conducted his own investigation, in which Rose was questioned by four school officials. Ultimately, Memphis could not find any evidence that Rose had cheated on what was available at the time and freed her to play.
Rose released a statement through her lawyer Daniel E. Reidy: "Mr. Rose is aware of the allegations reported in the press Mr Rose cooperates fully with the investigation of the athletic and legal department of the University of Memphis on this issue when he was a student, and the investigation found no fault on his part. "
On August 20, 2009, the NCAA left Memphis in the 2007-08-08 season. It took that position because the Education Testing Service canceled the SAT Rose score after Rose's first year in Memphis, the strict obligation to require Rose to be retroactively declared ineligible. He also stipulated that even without question about his test score, Rose would lose its eligibility in December 2007 because Reggie Rose was allowed to travel for free.
On May 28, 2010, Rose, former Memphis basketball coach John Calipari, and the athletic director of Memphis, R.C. Johnson reached $ 100,000 out of court with three lawyers representing seasonal Memphis ticket holders and threatened a lawsuit over the vacant 2007-08 season. The Memphis Commercial Appeal was first reported in this settlement in October 2011.
