Kordell Stewart (born October 16, 1972), nicknamed "Slash", is a former American football player who plays eleven years in the National Football League (NFL). Stewart attended the University of Colorado and was the 60th player selected in the 1995 NFL draft. Playing for Colorado in 1994 he completed the Mary Hail pass to defeat University of Michigan 27-26, a drama later known as "The Miracle at Michigan. " Among the NFL quarterbacks, 38 rash touchdowns make it fourth all time, behind Cam Newton (with 48), Steve Young (with 43) and Jack Kemp (with 40). The NFL network named it # 6 on the list of 10 most versatile players in NFL history. He plays mostly in quarterbacks, but also plays a wide receiver for a year.

College career
In 1991, Stewart was awarded a scholarship to the University of Colorado. Playing under coach Bill McCartney, he became one of the most prolific quarterbacks in school history, setting some Buffalo records, including passing most of the pass, the most yard, and most passing goals.
Stewart led the Buffalo-oriented option to a pair of regular top-10 ends of the season in AP and Coaches polls in 1992 and 1994 and won at the 1993 Aloha Bowl and 1995 Fiesta Bowl. He was selected as his second All-American senior year team as national rank No. 3 Colorado finished 11-1 in 1994.
One of his greatest moments for the Colorado Buffalo came in early. On September 5, 1992, Stewart started his first game as a second-year student when Colorado launched an upload-oriented violation that raised the 12th rank of Buffalo through the state of Colorado State, 37-17. Stewart connected on 21 of 36 passes for a then 409 yard school record and four goals in the contest.
On 24 September 1994, Stewart threw a game victory, a 64-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass into the final zone for wide receiver Michael Westbrook in the closing seconds to defeat the Wolverines of Michigan.

Pittsburgh Steelers
1997
Stewart got a chance to start in quarterback in 1997. Prior to that, with Neil O'Donnell as the early quarterback, he played a wide receiver. In his first season as an early quarterback in the NFL, he led the Steelers to an 11-5 record and the AFC Championship Game they lost to the Denver Broncos. Stewart threw three interceptions (two of which were made in opposite Denver edge zones), and lost accounting for Steeler's fourth turnover in a 24-21 loss.
1998-1999
Prior to the 1998 season, the Steelers lost their offensive coordinator, Chan Gailey. To replace him, the Steelers brought Ray Sherman from the Vikings. In addition, leading recipients Stewart and Pro Bowler Yancey Thigpen also went through free agents after the 1997 season. By the middle of the season in 1998, the Steelers had lost three of the five offensive linemen early in the 1997 AFC Championship game and, as a result, Stewart and Steelers violations struggled and failed to make the playoffs in both seasons.
2000
Coach Bill Cowher named Kent Graham quarterback to start the season, and the team went down to early 1-3. When Graham injured his hips, Stewart was tapped to replace him. The team finished 9-7 and almost lost playoffs to the New York Jets, who had lost to the Steelers with Stewart as a quarterback.
2001
As a quarterback starter, Stewart leads the 2001 Steelers to a regular 13-3 season record and top seed in the AFC playoffs. Under the care of new QB coach Tom Clements and Mike Mularkey's new offensive coordinator, Stewart underwent his best year as a professional, threw over 3,000 yards, completed 60 percent of his operations, and achieved an 81.7 passer rating. He threw 14 TDs and ran for five more. Stewart was selected for the Pro Bowl and was named Steelers MVP.
Steelers easily defeated defending champions Super Bowl, Baltimore Ravens in the playoff division. The last Super Bowl winner of the New England Patriots defeated the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game.
2002
Stewart started the 2002 season as a starting midfielder of the Steelers but after throwing interception into double coverage in the final zone at home against Cleveland Browns in the third game of the season, he was replaced by an increasingly popular Tommy Maddox reserve, and Stewart was released at the end of the season. Stewart started two games in place of injured Maddox to keep the team's playoff hopes alive. Maddox is back, and Stewart never played in Pittsburgh again.
Chicago Bears
The following season, Stewart signed a contract as a free agent with the Chicago Bears and was named the starter. After some poor performances in 2003, he was replaced for Chris Chandler. After getting the same result from Chandler, he reinserted as a starter, before getting a bench supporting Rookie Rookie Grossman after the Bears were knocked out of the playoffs. Stewart was released at the end of the season.
Baltimore Ravens
Stewart was signed in 2004 by Ravens to play a backup role for Kyle Boller, and subsequently served as an injured Anthony Wright replacement. He did not, however, throw a pass that season. He unexpectedly succeeded as an emergency substitute for substitute Dave Zastudil, who named the NFL Special Team Player this Sunday for his performance. He was released after the 2004 season, but due to injury to start quarterback Kyle Boller during Week # 1 of the 2005 season, Ravens once again signed Stewart into a reserve for Anthony Wright.
Nickname
The Pittsburgh Steelers color commentator Myron Cope gave Stewart the nickname "Slash" to admit that he can play multiple positions - quarterback/receiver/rusher (quarterback "slash" receiver "slash" rusher).
After restricting him to many utility roles during the 1995 season, when the Steelers made it to the Super Bowl XXX only to lose to the Dallas Cowboys, the team gave Stewart a chance to compete for an early quarterback position in 1996. After a pre-season bout, Bill Cowher named Jim Miller as midfielder early Steelers and retained Stewart in his "Slash" role. Miller struggled in Jacksonville on the opening day and was replaced by Mike Tomczak for the rest of the season. In the December 1996 match against the Carolina Panthers, Stewart set the NFL record for the longest touchdown run by a quarterback with 80 yards in a rush.

Post-NFL careers
After Boller's reactivation on November 9, 2005, Ravens cut off Stewart instead of making it a third player, reactivating Moses Smith instead. Stewart did not comment after the announcement that he had been cut off from the team.
Stewart made guest appearances on TV show Deal or No Deal and Pro vs. Joes .
On April 29, 2008, in an interview on WCNN "680 The Fan", Stewart expressed interest in returning to the NFL. Also, according to ESPN2 First Take on July 28, 2008, Stewart is not officially retired and has worked at his home, to try his comeback during pre-season. He then put in a free agent but was never chosen by the team.
He appeared in January 2009 as an analyst at ESPN's College Football Live, and then reappeared in July during the "50 States Tour" event for an event episode about Colorado athletics.
Stewart is also a side reporter for the United Football League and is currently an analyst at ESPN events such as NFL Live , NFL 32 , Take 2 , and Mike and Mike in the Morning .
Although he did not attempt to graduate in nearly nine years, on May 30, 2012, Stewart officially retired from the NFL.
Personal life
Stewart has a son, Syre, with his ex-girlfriend, Tania Richardson.
Stewart meets Porsha Williams, grandson of civil rights leader Hosea Williams, in 2009 in downtown Atlanta, Luckie Lounge. On May 21, 2011, they were married in a luxury ceremony featured on WE tv's Platinum Weddings . Stewart filed for divorce from Williams on March 22, 2013, arguing that the marriage was irreversible. Initial reports said he did not want to pay for spousal support.
In October 2012, Stewart started his current position as a radio talk show host co-host talk show host with Atlanta's WZGC "92.9 The Game". Stewart is not listed as an "in the air" talent anywhere on the WZGC website on September 12, 2015.
Stewart is a diligent golfer and carries 9 handicaps when he is an active NFL player.
