Histori

The accident was one of the earliest settlements in far west Maryland. His name goes back to the land survey of 1786. Although the origin or meaning of the name is unknown, a popular story says that Brooke Beall and William Deakins, Jr., friends of Prince George's County were conducting separate surveys in the area at the time and " incidentally "Deakins claims the land has been surveyed. by Beall.

When Lord Baltimore opened an area he called Monocacy Manor to a settlement in the early 1770s, Brooke Beall obtained permission to survey 778 acres (3.15 km 2 ). It will never be known for certain how Beall came to choose this particular place, but the surveyors were given clear instructions on where to start. He will start "in the middle between two restricted white oaks, standing on the north side of Bear Creek's southern fork in or near the swamp about a hundred yards from the word Run, about a mile or two above Lick known by the name" Cole Mine Lick ", about four miles (6 km) above the mouth of Broad Creek and about 1.6 km east of Ridge of the Negro Mountain." John Hanson, Jr., who later became a delegate to the Continental Congress, and the President of America States at the Assembled Congress, on April 14, 1774, surveyed the land, discovering that the land contains only 682 hectares (2.76 km 2 ). For the next twelve years nothing was done with the survey. The Revolution intervened, and it was not until 15 February 1786, that the land was awarded through a patent for William Deakins. The following year, the surrounding villages were surveyed into many military by Francis Deakins, many of which were meant as compensation for soldiers serving from Maryland during the War of Independence. Each soldier who served two years received a lot of 50 acres (200,000 m 2 ), the attendant received four 50-acre lots (200,000 m 2 ) each.
