AS. Lawyers

As US Attorney Turner investigated a fake marriage organized by Rajneesh (Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh's charismatic follower, now known as Osho) in Rajneeshpuram, Oregon, as well as other illegal activities including wiretapping, immigration scams and the 1984 Rajneeshee bioterrorism attack in Antelope, Oregon.

In 1985, Rajneesh's high-ranking followers planned to kill Turner. The perpetrators took steps including assembling a conspirator team, making a list of individuals to kill including Turner and other Oregon officials, obtaining false identification, buying weapons outside the country, and conducting surveillance at Turner's office, home and car. Seven of Rajneesh's followers were punished for conspiracy to kill Turner. Turner then commented on how the killing plot against him by Rajneesh's followers had influenced him: "This is a forbidden conspiracy waiting to kill me, a president who was appointed, and for a long time I slept with weapons loaded beside my bed."

In 1988, Turner hired lawyer Michael Mosman as a prosecutor associated with illegal activities in tribal land in Oregon - Mosman will continue to be confirmed by the US Senate as a US lawyer for Oregon in 2001. Turner comments on hiring Mosman: "He has outside skills regular beyond his age and will be a first-class lawyer. "Turner hired another lawyer who later became US Attorney for Oregon Mark Bailey, who previously worked at the US Attorney's office in Houston, Texas. Turner served as a federal prosecutor for 17 years, and retired in 1993. Kristine Olson replaced Turner as US Attorney for Oregon; he previously worked under Turner but resigned in 1984 after disagreement with Turner over his method.
