Transfer
Tottenham started their transfer movement for the 2010-11 season in mid-March, when Spurs completed a deal for young Brazilian player Sandro, joining the club from Internacional, the club that Tottenham have key affiliates, with Sandro joining the squad following the 2010 Copa Libertadores. At the start of the transfer market, Tottenham retained the services of a number of key players, with club captain Ledley King signing a new two-year contract extension with the club, followed by former Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini, who signed a new contract year after his recovery from a serious road accident that occurred November 2009.
Luka Modri? is the next player committed to his future with the club, signing an extended six-year contract to secure his services until 2016. After two months of minor transfer activities, Tottenham secured William Gallas's controversial signing on a free transfer after his release from rivals Arsenal. As a result of that move, Gallas became the first Premier League player to play for Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, all London clubs and fierce rivals. On the day of the transfer deadline, early in the day, Spurs confirmed the signing of Croatian international goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa's loan from Spartak Moscow. This seemed to be the Spurs' only move of the day, but in the last few moments before the deadline, news broke that Tottenham were negotiating with Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart. After the close of the transfer window, the club must wait for a deal to be ratified by the Premier League, due to complications on the Spurs computer. The transfer is completed the next day, at a cost believed to be around Ã, à £ 8 million.
During the transfer window, a number of players left Spurs, starting with young goalkeeper Lee Butcher, leaving to join Leyton Orient on a free transfer after his contract expires at Tottenham, followed a month later by defender Sam Cox signing a contract with Barnet, again, after the expiration of the Spurs- his. Soon afterwards, a number of periphery and academy players, including veteran goalkeeper Jimmy Walker, left the club on a free transfer. In early August, Queens Park Rangers completed the permanent signing of Adel Taarabt at a fee believed to be around Ã, à £ 1 million; Taarabt spent the 2009-10 season on loan at QPR before sealing a permanent contract. Tottenham's last permanent final transfer from the summer transfer window saw French defender Dorian Dervite move to Spanish club Villarreal for an undisclosed fee.
The transfer window also sees young players getting loans to get regular football. The first loan movement saw young goalkeeper David Button, who had just dropped out of a new three-year deal, joined Plymouth Argyle on loan for a season, followed by another young goalkeeper, Oscar Jansson, joined Northampton Town until September 2010 and completed three moves in a week, England under 19 international John Bostock went on to join Hull City during the 2010-11 season. Six days later, winger Andros Townsend signed a season-long loan to Ipswich Town after appearing for Tottenham on their pre-season tour of the United States. On the same day, Dean Parrett joined David Button in Plymouth on a one-month contract. The following day, Ryan Mason, also featured in Spurs' pre-season, joined Doncaster Rovers on a one-month contract, trailing a week later with young striker Jon Obika who moved to Crystal Palace for the season.
Spurs then signed young South African defender Bongani Khumalo for £ 1.5m from defending champions South Africa Supersport United as their first signing on the January window. Khumalo joins a four-and-a-half year deal. The first senior exit door from the window was David Bentley, who moved on loan to Birmingham City on 12 January; loan ends at the end of the season. Spurs then captured another South African in Steven Pienaar from Everton, beating Chelsea with a midfield signature in a deal that Spurs spent Ã, £ 3 million. A fairly quiet window ends with senior players Robbie Keane, Giovani dos Santos and Jamie O'Hara joining West Ham United, Racing de Santander and Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan deals, respectively. All three players will return at the end of the season.
Pre-season friendship
Tottenham start their pre-season by facing Harry Redknapp and former Kevin Bond team, AFC Bournemouth, starting the pre-season with a comfortable 4-0 win. A mid-first-half goal from Jon Obika led Spurs, before Roman Pavlyuchenko's goal doubled the goal. Danny Rose made it three minutes later before another Pavlyuchenko goal wrapped up the match and the start of the win.
Spurs then embarked on a tour of the United States, starting in San Jose, facing San Jose Earthquakes Major League Soccer (MLS) game, with the match ending 0-0. Tottenham travels to New York to compete in the New York Football Challenge, a tournament featuring Spurs, New York Red Bulls, Sporting CP and Premier League rivals Manchester City. Spurs first game saw them pitted against the home side Red Bulls with their new signing, Theyry Henry, made his debut. Henry opened the scoring against his old rivals, before goals from Robbie Keane and Gareth Bale in the second half gave Spurs a 2-1 win. In Tottenham's last game of the tournament, Spurs face Portuguese side Sporting, resulting in a 2-2 draw, which resulted in Sporting lifting the New York Challenge trophy. Tottenham leads first through Robbie Keane, finishing one-on-one with 'keeper. Sporting retaliated with goals from Chilean players MatÃÆ'as FernÃÆ'ández and Jaime Valdà ©. Spurs equalized though, 20 minutes from time after Jon Obika ran into Keane through the ball to earn a draw for Tottenham.
Spurs first player at White Hart Lane in pre-season saw them face Villarreal. Midway through the first half, Villarreal leads with former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi completing the ball through Santi Cazorla. Villarreal doubled their lead ten minutes later with Rossi scoring both with a clinical finish following a slip from Michael Dawson. Early in the second half, an early goal from Giovani dos Santos made a comeback possibility, but it was put out later in the second half, with Rossi securing a hat-trick with a very deflected effort on goal. Villarreal ended the match with Marco Ruben scoring to give the visitors a 4-1 victory. Tottenham then travel to Lisbon to play Benfica in the EusÃÆ' à © bio Cup. Spurs eventually lifted the trophy after securing a 1-0 win, with Gareth Bale scoring the only goal of the game early in the second half. Tottenham ended the pre-season with a home game against Italian side Fiorentina early in August. In this game, defensive mistakes gave Fiorentina a lead in ten minutes through Alberto Gilardino. Ten minutes later, Spurs hit back with an equalizing goal from Roman Pavlyuchenko, scoring his fourth goal in pre-season. Fiorentina again took advantage, with a shot from Adem Ljaji? defeating Heurelho Gomes. Spurs, however, equalized early in the second half with Robbie Keane's goal before clinching a 3-2 victory with Keane's last-minute goal to end the pre-season with four wins, two draws and one defeat.

Spurs then kicked off their first Champions League match at Werder Bremen by scoring twice against goal, first an own goal by Bremen defender Petri Pasanen and then a trademark header by Peter Crouch from Van der Vaart's pass, only to be denied a famous victory by a goal from Hugo Almeida and Marko Marin to get Werder Bremen a point against a solid-looking Spurs team that day.
Tottenham then returned to domestic duty with a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 18 September. Wolves lead up against what looks like exhausted Spurs with Steven Fletcher beating Carlo Cudicini to make it 1-0 for Wolves. Full-back Alan Hutton's introduction to the new Yoouls Yoouls shortly before half-time gave Spurs a changing side, and the substitute had a large part in the equalizer after he was dropped in the penalty area to hand over van der Vaart. the chance to open his account from the spot - which he did, and Spurs went on to win the 3-1 game with goals from another substitute, Roman Pavlyuchenko, and Alan Hutton himself in the final seconds to secure the Spurs victory.
The first North London derby of the season saw Spurs beat Arsenal at White Hart Lane in the League Cup third round. Goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa, youngster Steven Caulker, and midfielder Sandro made their debut in a trophy match in which Arsenal took the lead with youngster Henri Lansbury spending his passing pass by sliding a Jack Wilshere cross in 15 minutes. Spurs responded promptly though after half-time with substitute Robbie Keane scoring in the 49th minute after being released by Kyle Naughton. The game finished 1-1 in normal time and the final score was 1-4 to Arsenal, with two penalty kicks Samir Nasri and Andrey Arshavin straight away winning for the away side and secured fourth-place berth for Arsenal.

Monthly summary
Spurs started October in Premier League action, starting with home games against Aston Villa. Spurs fell behind in the 16th minute, after Marc Albrighton slid from close range to give the visitors an edge. Spurs fought back though, and eventually won the game through a brace from Rafael van der Vaart.
After the international break, Spurs traveled to Craven Cottage for the London derby with Fulham. Spurs came back behind after a modest Kamian Diomansy finished but then responded directly from the kick-off, after Van der Vaart's chip bounced over the crossbar for Roman Pavlyuchenko, who could not really miss from close to a yard. However, Spurs controversially won all three points after Tom Huddlestone hit a powerful long-range shot into the bottom corner of the goal, which the Fulham team thought had taken a goal from William Gallas, who did stand in an offside position. The goal stands and it seems it is the right decision, because the ball really hit the Fulham defender on his way to the goal rather than Gallas.
Tottenham then face European champions Internazionale on the night to remember the Spurs fans at the San Siro. Even 2 minutes did not go when Spurs made the worst start possible after Javier Zanetti curled home past Heurelho Gomes, who subsequently conceded a penalty and was sent off after denying Jonathan Biabiany scoring chances in the penalty area - Samuel Eto'o converted a penalty and scored another past Carlo Cudicini after Dejan Stankovi? earlier gave Inter a three-goal cushion, which meant Spurs trailed 4-0 in 14 minutes. The first half ended with the home side with four good goals, comfortable. Spurs, however, battled back in the second half, with a hat-trick from Gareth Bale, his two goals coming in injury time. Hattrik Bale meant that the final score was 4-3 for Inter, but a superb comeback from Spurs to pull back three goals at the San Siro.
Spurs return to Premiership action against Everton at White Hart Lane. In a fairly uneven match, Everton took the lead through Leighton Baines free-kick spectacularly in the 17th minute. But Spurs responded almoost immediately with Rafael van der Vaart earning in the final Peter Crouch knock-down to equalize for Spurs three minutes after the opener. The match finished 1-1.
Tottenham ended the month with a controversial 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford to Manchester United. In an entertaining game, both sides hit the bar at the opening twenty minutes before Nemanja Vidi? opening the score with a header. Then, five minutes from time, Nani scored a controversial second after goalkeeper Tottenham Gomes put the ball on the ground, thinking that a free kick was awarded in Tottenham's favor after Nani appeared to handle the ball. Team-mate Nani United urged him to shoot, which he did, much for Gomes' and Tottenham's anger, but his goal somehow stood up despite the line's judge's flag rising for unknown reasons.
Spurs end the fifth month in the Premiership and second in their Champions League group.

Monthly summary
November starts with Internazionale's visit to White Hart Lane in a Champions League match. The defending champions are without some key players, especially goalkeeper JÃÆ'úlio CÃÆ'à © sar. Tottenham also lost first-choice goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes through suspension; he was replaced by Carlo Cudicini of Italy. Spurs made a great start to the game but it was only twenty minutes when Rafael van der Vaart opened the scoring from close range. Spurs managed to retain a lead in the first half, when van der Vaart's scorer then had to break out due to a recurrence of a hamstring injury - his successor was Jermaine Jenas. Spurs continued to play as they did in the first half and doubled their lead just in time, when Gareth Bale ran past Inter's defense right and played at Peter Crouch, who made the mistake of losing earlier by sliding home from six yards. Inter then pulled a goal ten minutes from time through Samuel Eto'o, who scored a beautiful goal from a corner past Cudicini. When Inter pushed for an inappropriate equalizer, Bale ran into the ball through from YounÃÆ'ès Kaboul, ran Inter's ragged defense and to cap a man off the match, knocking the ball in goal for substitute Roman Pavlyuchenko to poke home to give Spurs 3-1 win over European champions.
Spurs return to Premier League action at home to Bolton Wanderers, without Aaron Lennon & amp; Rafael van der Vaart due to injury. Spurs started slowly, and left behind after Kevin Davies scored the opening goal for Bolton. Spurs did not improve in the second half, and then went 2-0 up after GrÃÆ' à © tar Steinsson failed in a corner kick ten minutes after the first half ended. Spurs then failed to respond and conceded a penalty after BenoÃÆ'át Assou-Ekotto bundled up Lee Chung-yong in the box - Kevin Davies expertly sent a penalty kick from 12 yards for all three of Bolton. However, Spurs battled back late after curling from Alan Hutton and a beautiful volley from Pavlyuchenko, but that was not enough because Bolton broke free and Martin Petrov, coming off the bench, drove home to make it 4-2 for Bolton.
Spurs then face Sunderland in a midweek match at White Hart Lane. Spurs were held at 0-0 for over an hour, but took the lead on 64 minutes through Rafael van der Vaart, back from injury. However, the game ended in a 1-1 draw after Sunderland equalized through Asamoah Gyan to win a point for the visitors.
Spurs continued the month with another home game, this time against Blackburn Rovers. Spurs took the lead on 16 minutes with Gareth Bale's header from the corner of van der Vaart. Spurs then pushed for a second, eventually earning it in 42 minutes through Roman Pavlyuchenko, making a mistake to miss the previous from the penalty spot. Spurs scored twice in the second half, with Peter Crouch scoring his first league goal of the season and Bale scoring the second goal of the game for 4-0. Blackburn fought back though and earned two late goals, first coming from Ryan Nelsen after David Dunn's long-range shot was deflected into Nelsen's heel and into the back of the net and the second came from GaÃÆ'ál Givet's volley from close range but not enough and Spurs held on. for three points.
The first North London league derby this season sees Arsenal against Spurs at the Emirates Stadium on 20 November. Arsenal took advantage of a mistake from the Spurs goal, Gomes, who failed to get out and claimed the ball after heavy touch from Samir Nasri - Gomes finally came out and tried to catch the ball but the ball rebounded off Nasri's Nasri and Nasri ran to the ball to slot home from the most. tight from all angles on nine minutes. Arsenal doubled their advantage in the 27th minute, after Andrey Arshavin crossed for Marouane Chamakh to head home to give Arsenal a 2-0 advantage at half-time. Spurs then make a comeback though, after Assou-Ekotto's long ball is turned on by Jermain Defoe, back from injury, into a well-controlled van der Vaart lane and unleashes Bale, which only has? Ukasz Fabia? Skiing to beat and do so well, with a good left foot finished five minutes after the first half ended. Luka Modri? went close to a 25-yard drive that runs narrowly and then brought down for a free kick, to which Arsenal captain Cesc F̮' bregas deliberately handled to give Spurs penalty. Van der Vaart made no mistake of the place, sent Fabia? Ski in the Arsenal goalkeeper to level for Spurs, and then booked for the celebration. Spurs then went on to win the game after Gareth Bale was drawn by Laurent Koscielny, resulting in a free kick swung by Van der Vaart for Youn̮'̬s Kaboul to head home with four minutes remaining, giving Spurs their first win away to Arsenal for 17 years and their first away win they were at the "Top Four" club in nearly 70 matches.
Spurs then have a chance to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, knowing that a win for them and Internazionale will secure qualification from Group A; to do so, Spurs must beat Werder Bremen at White Hart Lane and Inter must beat Twente. Spurs were on their way after another goal from Youn̮'̬s Kaboul on six minutes, from Aaron Lennon's cross. Bremen, who were marred by injury and suspension to captain Torsten Frings, then found themselves two goals down the stroke of half-time after Luka Modri? got Peter Crouch's final knock-down, turned and darted past Tim Wiese at Bremen's goal. Spurs secured the points and qualifying, when Inter beat Twente 1-0, with Peter Crouch scoring the third from close range at the end of the game.
Tottenham ended the month in a Premiership match with home games against Liverpool 4 days after the game against Werder Bremen. Spurs once again left behind in the 42nd minute, with Martin? Krtel stirred after the mouth of goal scrambling in the Tottenham box. Spurs pushed for an equalizer, and had a great chance to level after they were awarded a penalty when David N'Gog tackled Gareth Bale's free kick, but Defoe smashed a wide shot from the post. Spurs finally equalized on 65 minutes, with? Krtel, having opened the scoring, diverted a low Modri ââcross, which was en route to Peter Crouch, into his own net to give Spurs equalizer a gift. Spurs finally won the game through Aaron Lennon, who beat Liverpool, Paul Konchesky, to beat Peter Crouch to beat Pepe Reina to give Spurs a 2-1 victory.
Spurs finished November in fifth place and top of Group A of the Champions League, securing qualification to the knockout round in the Champions League.

Twente level after Denny Landzaat's penalty was taken back, after Roberto Rosales striked from 20 yards which appeared to hit BenoÃÆ'át Assou-Ekotto's arm. More controversy was to follow, when Didier Drogba appeared to handle the ball before firing a shot on goal, which Tottenham keeper Heurelho Gomes spilled into his own net. Chelsea were then awarded a penalty deep into injury time, after Gomes bundled over Chelsea midfielder Ramires in the area, only to then save Drogba's kick to ensure that the game finished 1-1.
